I used to shut myself off. I wouldn’t talk, and I tried not to feel. I mostly lived in my mind, turning inward and blocking out the world. It was how I dealt with challenges.
Sometimes, I wonder if this is why I developed Crohn’s disease in 2017, at 28 years old. My own immune system attacking my digestive system... Whether or not that's the case, it has certainly been a magnifying glass for the way I show up in life.
After months of having less and less energy and facing complications back then, I believed there had to be more to healing than just medication and surgery. So, I went on a quest to figure things out.
In the middle of chaos, I discovered moments of intense inner peace and gratitude for life’s simple joys, like the warmth of sunlight on my face. Even though I was struggling to simply get through each day, I found comfort in embracing the present moment, without resistance (Hello, yoga!). I didn't have the energy to respond to every thought or every trigger. The desire to reconnect with that sense of calm and gratitude continues to shape my life.
I started investigating practices like tai chi and Vipassana meditation to find understanding and relief from within. Yet, my on-and-off relationship with yoga evolved into my most constant and supportive companion. Over the years, I deepened my practice, expanded it with arm balancing, and became a yoga teacher. Along the way, I gained valuable lessons about self-compassion and prioritizing my inner well-being over external achievements.
As I grew to understand the importance of self-care, I became more mindful of pacing myself. This led me to the realization that a gentler approach was better for me. And that’s how Whoosh Yoga was born. Gentle online arm balance courses. Offering not just physical exercise to follow in your own space, at your own pace, matching your current energy levels. But also serving as a tool for self-awareness and personal transformation.
We live in a generally fast-paced world and can be hard on ourselves when we don’t instantly reach everything we desire. It's easy to skip over moments of self-reflection and forget to give ourselves the space and gentleness we truly deserve. That’s why I wanted to create an opportunity for you to connect with yourself, gradually overcome your limits and empower your life. On the mat, you can tap into your potential with a sense of playfulness and then take that empowered energy into your daily life.
